Steve DeCremer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and a Master of Science degree in counseling psychology from Illinois State University and has spent over 20 years counseling individuals, families, couples, and groups in a variety of settings.

Steve has a wealth of experience counseling children and adolescents and their families regarding issues including ADHD, oppositional behavior, divorce, substance abuse, self esteem, anger control, parenting issues, depression and loss issues. While his primary focus has been on children and families, Steve also has experience counseling adult individuals and couples with relationship and mental health concerns.

Steve spend 12 years working in the domestic violence field, primarily focusing on abusers in a group setting helping them recognize problematic personal and relationship characteristics and learn positive and constructive approaches to their lives and relationships. He assisted the Illinois Department of Human Services in training others throughout the state to implement similar programs and created and implemented parenting classes to address the effects of domestic violence and abuse on children and teach more effective techniques to parenting.

Steve’s approach to counseling is solution-focused, genuine, and caring. He believes that our thoughts and perceptions fuel our emotions and choices and that, by gaining a more rational view of ourselves and the world we live in, we can utilize our personal and community resources to overcome problems and live to our fullest potential.
