Debra Disney is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She earned a Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis in Community Counseling, from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
Debra believes that we already have within us everything we need to live the lives we want, but that sometimes we need some guidance in letting go of the stressors that have bound us. The great sculptor, Michelangelo, said, "Every block of stone has a statue inside it, and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it." Debra’s goal is to provide therapy that helps to chip away the "stones" of unhappiness and "uncover" wellness in mind, body, and spirit.
Since 2000, Debra has provided client-centered services to help people who are seeking joy and peace of mind, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. She was a counselor and bereavement coordinator at Hospice of Southern Illinois for six years, and has been the Counseling Coordinator at The Cancer Center for Healthy Living in Peoria since 2006.
Debra’s experience includes helping with depression, anxiety, relaxation, stress reduction, mindfulness meditation, death and dying issues, grief, and cancer support for both the patient and caregiver. She has also been trained in Energy Psychology, particularly EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique.)
Debra and her husband have two adult children and one grandson. In her free time she enjoys yoga, meditation, hiking, crocheting, reading, and traveling.
